Not sure yet whether GML fits your setup? See GML on visualradioassist.live. VRA reads now playing data from GML in one of two ways. Pick the one that fits your setup:
  • Gml: VRA Core watches the GML Realtime Info XML file.
  • Gml Http: GML sends its data to VRA Core with an HTTP POST.

Before you start

  • VRA Core runs for your studio. See Machine specs.
  • For Gml: the VRA Core machine can open the GML Realtime Info XML file, for example over a UNC path.
  • For Gml Http: the GML machine can reach the VRA Core machine on the Core API port, 3002 by default.

Read the Realtime Info XML file

  1. Go to Settings → Studio → Automations in VRA Cloud.
  2. Click Add Automation and pick Gml.
  3. Turn on Enabled. A new connection starts switched off.
  4. On the VRA Core machine, copy the path to the GML Realtime Info XML file. Test that it opens, for example with WIN+R and the path.
  5. Paste the path into Path to GML Realtime Info (.XML) to watch.
  6. Click Add connection.

Receive data with an HTTP POST

  1. Go to Settings → Studio → Automations in VRA Cloud.
  2. Click Add Automation and pick Gml Http.
  3. Turn on Enabled. A new connection starts switched off.
  4. Copy the URL under API endpoint. It ends in /alink/gmlhttp/.
  5. Click Add connection.
  6. In GML, send the now playing data to this URL with an HTTP POST.
The host in the URL must be an address the GML machine can reach. If it reads 0.0.0.0, replace it with the IP address of the VRA Core machine, for example 192.168.1.20.

Check that VRA receives GML data

Start an item in GML, then check two places:
  • Settings → Studio → Automations: the GML connection shows a green status dot, the title and artist of the playing item, and the time of the last update.
  • AutomationLink in the main menu: the item shows under On air.

Troubleshoot GML

The GML connection stays idle

Check, in this order:
  1. Enabled is on in the connection, and AutomationLink Enabled is on at the top of Settings → Studio → Automations.
  2. For Gml: the path opens from the VRA Core machine, and GML updates the file when an item starts. Check the file’s modified time.
  3. For Gml Http: the URL in GML uses the IP address of the VRA Core machine, not 0.0.0.0, and a firewall on the VRA Core machine allows incoming connections on the Core API port.
