# Scheduling overrides

> Plan a holiday, an event day or a special week as a scheduling override, a copy of your Scheduling calendar that never changes your main schedule.

A scheduling override is a copy of your schedule for a day, a week or any dates you pick. While the override is active, VRA runs the programs inside it instead of the main scheduling. Edits inside an override never touch the main scheduling, so your regular week is back as soon as the override ends.

## Create a scheduling override

1. Open **Scheduling → Calendar**, click the arrow next to **New program** and pick **New override**.
2. Enter a **Name**, like "Christmas week 2026".
3. Under **Window**, pick **Day**, **Week** or **Custom**. **Week** runs Monday to Sunday from the start date. **Custom** takes any start and end date.
4. Leave **Copy programs from main schedule** on to start with a copy of every program in that window, recurring programs included. Turn it off to start empty.
5. Click **Create override**.

Overrides cover whole days in the time zone of your station. Two overrides can't overlap. The dialog names the override that is in the way.

## Edit the programs of a scheduling override

The override picker sits next to the view switcher in **Scheduling → Calendar**. It shows **Main scheduling** by default.

1. Pick the override in the picker. The calendar shows the programs of that override.
2. Create, change, move or delete programs as you do in the main scheduling.
3. Pick **Main scheduling** to go back.

In the main scheduling, the days of an override carry a **!** in the header, and programs on those days show **Suspended by override**.

## Skip one occurrence of a recurring program

Deleting a recurring program removes every occurrence. To skip one day, like a show that doesn't air on a public holiday:

1. Create an override for that day, with **Copy programs from main schedule** on.
2. Pick the override in the calendar and delete the copy of the program.

The main scheduling keeps the program for every other week.

## Manage scheduling overrides

**Settings → Outputs → Scheduling** lists every override under **Scheduling Overrides**, with **Active now**, **Upcoming** or **Past**.

* **Duplicate to new dates** copies an override and its programs to a new date range. The programs keep their timing within the window. Use it to plan next year's Christmas week from this year's.
* **Delete** removes the override and every program inside it. A deleted override shows as **Archived**, and **Restore** brings it back.

You can also delete the override that is open in the calendar with **Delete this override** in the override picker.
